The COVID-19 pandemic has brought devastation and struggle to countless people around the world, including many in our own country. Yet the solidarity that has been demonstrated is both encouraging and inspirational.
The Bonteheuwel Development Forum
Access to sufficient food is a fundamental human right, and yet many go to bed hungry each night. The Bonteheuwel Development Forum are doing more than their bit to help correct this injustice.
The Bonteheuwel Development Forum has been working tirelessly for the past 10 weeks, putting their hearts and souls into delivering essential food relief in the Bonteheuwel community.
Co-ordinated by Henrietta Abrahams, the group of volunteers deliver food to 17 blocks in the community. This effort of 34 feeding schemes manages to feed approximately 20,400 people per week.
The struggle of COVID-19
COVID-19 has introduced different struggles for different people. However, for many in Bonteheuwel, their struggles infringe on their right to sufficient food.
The Bonteheuwel Development Forum relies on donations, which are being quickly depleted due to the increased need in the community. With more children being at home, more unemployed individuals, and newly retrenched family members, there are more mouths to feed than ever.
The queues to receive daily nutrition through their feeding schemes are getting longer, and longer by the day.
You can help to make a difference
The increase in hunger directly impacts the increase in the need for donations. You can play a small role in helping someone receive a meal.
Henrietta Abrahams shares, “We once again would like to request all friends, families, neighbours and former Bontivanians to assist in our plea for help.”
The group are in dire need for the following donations to keep on feeding people in need.
If possible, we encourage you to donate the following ingredients:
- Cooking Oil
- Meat/Meaty Bones
- Maize Meal/Jungle Oats
- Split Peas
- Gas and Gas tanks
- 100-litre Pots
How to donate?
In-kind donations can be delivered to 8 Jasmine Street Bonteheuwel, Cape Town. Cash donations can be deposited to our Bonteheuwel Development Forum account as set out in the picture below.
For any further details please contact Henriette Abrahams via WhatsApp or call on 076 3783 842.
